Kingdoms rose and kingdoms fell. Some were loved and some despised. But one rose to power and defeated all others. There was nothing left but it and the fragments of it's enemies. It was a huge mass that sprawled across the lands. It's taxes were high and it had little mercy upon any. It's armies returned from each battle in triumph as they chanted the name of their king, "Bill! Bill! Bill! King of the Gates!" And on it's flag were two letters and a word. The first letter was M and the last was S. The word spelled out like music, O-F-F-I-C-E. It was loved by many and hated by many, but those who hated didn't have a choice to serve another.
You would think there there would then be peace, but there wasn't. With all kingdoms there is corruption, the kingdom of the Gates was no different. Small kingdoms began to rise and raid the outskirts of the kingdom of the Gates. One managed to make a name for itself and on their flag they replaced the two letters with another word. So the first word was there and it spelled out like honey, O-P-E-N. And they called themselves followers of the order of the open office. They chose democracy and freedom of rights over the monarchy of the Gates. Their pride was in their source for it was open. But their taxes on your system were still high.
Then there was a glimmer of hope for those weary of battle, for a new flag was raised that promised simplicity, complete freedom and no taxes. Upon this flag there was not two letters and a word nor a word and a word, but that of three letters. The first was R and the second S. The last letter was T and it stood for that for which it was made; text! The first and the second stood for reStructured so that the full interpretation was reStructuredText.
The war still rages on today as people fight for one cause or the other. But there is one flag that I think is worth marching under. That of RST. It does not demand that you fight, it just allowes you to write, and with grace and peace does it do so. You write your dreams and it will make them look good. Put stars around your words and it will make them bold! You write what you mean without worry about it's display, it does the worrying for you.
