I was unpacking my laptop at the office today when I noticed all the lights on the router rapidly blinking. I mean very rapidly... and continually without stop. I thought it was a little unusual but it didn't come to my mind that it was being flooded.
I finished setting up my computer and plugged the ether-net cable in. When I couldn't access the Internet I tried pinging the router. My computer went to a crawl.. but sped right back up when I canceled the ping.
Matthew reset it (by unplugging it). Nope, still was going crazy. Then he found the problem and it all worked great.
Morel of the story: if you want to flood a router, it works best to plug it into itself! :P
(Once one packet reached the router, it would send it on to all devices plugged into it... and when one of those devices was itself, it went into an infinite loop)
I found it kinda amusing (after it was figured out of course).
